Following a couple of mechanical breakdowns when I needed my van the most the team here where fast and efficient with sorting my problems out and getting me back on the road.I since returned for a service and mot and received the same level of service and advice. Recommend

Great garage so impressed with the knowledge

Friendly, competent, efficient service without ripping you off.

Driving from Birmingham my clutch cable broke in a small village with no mobile signal or payphone. Managed to make contact with Central Garage (thank you Brockton Primary school for use of landline) and recovery time and repair options discussed by a very competent receptionist. Recovery arrived exactly on time, and took car to Central Garage for repair. Before recovery had even arrived, parts had already been ordered. I went on a walk up Long Mynd and on returning four hours later, car was washed and ready to drive home. Staff were awesome. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, professional and competent, and made what could have been a crappy day a whole lot easier. The costs including recovery were very reasonable, and the particular part fitted is guaranteed for 12000 miles. What more could you ask for? A friendly competent service who I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. If only all garages were run so efficiently, we'd have no headaches during stressful breakdown situations. 5*****

I would give zero star if I could! My car's battery light came on on the way from Telford to my girlfriend's family home in Church Stretton just after X'mas (28 Dec 2013). We managed to drive to Stretton. Then called the RAC to have a look on the Sunday. The patrol suspected the alternator and recommended Central Garage as only a few hundred yards from us. He got our car there and left it at the garage door. The next door, Monday morning, I rang up the garage and asked them to give me a quote BEFORE doing any work. Then, later that day about 5.30pm, they rang up and said the work was complete and 279.65 for my 51 reg Mondeo estate. The next day, Tue (31/12), before I picked it up, I phoned a few garages around Shrewsbury/Shropshire to get me a quote for the job. The first one I got was 182 including VAT with GI Motors in Shrewsbury. So I went to Central Garage before they shut for New Year. I questioned why they went ahead with the work without my permission. It was way more expensive than other garages. They excused that they were busy to work flat out to get all jobs done before New Year so they forgot to ring me. They also made excuse the job would take 2 hours labour to do. GI Motors said 1 hour. They said, "we heard it all before. Dealership (Ford) is fairest on the labour". I said,"I'll ring Ford in Shrewsbury after New Year and see what they say, shall we?" I demanded to pay a reduced price of 200. The boss was very angry with the guy at the reception as he didn't call me back with a quote and went ahead with the job. I eventually paid 200 which was still more than other garages. After New Year, I subsequently rang a few more garages including Furrows Ford in Shrewsbury, Church Road Garage in Baschurch and my local garage in North Wales. They all said 1 hour labour or maximum 1 hr 5 mins. The alternator Central Garage charged me was 183.61 with VAT. The same make I found on internet was 125 with VAT. They marked up by almost 60 and didn't need to put in a top quality one as my car was over 12 years old and on its last leg anyway. Some motor factors could get me one for just under 100. I could've bought the part myself and get a garage to put it in for me; costing no more than 150 altogether. Especially, the phone call to Church Road Garage in Baschurch, who is an award winning garage, the proprietor told me garages usually marked the parts up by a small precentage but by 47% was excessive and dishonest. He also told me that the labour hour was standard time quoted by Ford mechanics database available to all garages to produce quotes for their customers. The database, he's got, showed 55 mins and he said the car being that age may take 10-15 mins longer at max and by no means 2 hours altogether. Bill Smith at Church Road Garage, I salute you. Even you're in Shrewsbury area, I recommend you to try them out.My girlfriend's family also had experience with the garages in Church Stretton being rip-off. Our theory is that Church Stretton is a retirement town with loads of fairly well-off pensioners with big houses and cars. The garages there tend to overcharge from MOT to parts to labour to exploit the ignorance of elderly people and convenience of a local garage rather than the hassle to take their cars to Shrewsbury or elsewhere. Please beware of these cowboys in Church Stretton. Absolutely hate them.
